Designing with Biophilia
Designing Buildings with Biophilia
The RCSA brings you a webinar about Biophilia in South African projects.
The term Biophilia was first created by Biologist Edward Wilson in 1984 and it is defined as our innate and genetically determined affinity with the natural world. Biophilia literally means love of nature and expresses our human attraction to nature and natural processes. Biophilia can bring an incredible sense of calm and relaxation to spaces. We have become increasingly disconnected from nature in our daily lives and it is therefore becoming critically important to connect people with nature in our built environment. Applying Biophilia does exactly that – it is about purposefully integrating nature into our building designs.
