Greening Existing Homes in South Africa
Greening Existing Homes in South Africa
The Regenerative Collaborative South Africa presents:
The holistic approach that is the defining feature of green building has for the most part been in the realm of commercial buildings. In South Africa, the introduction of the SANS 10400XA building regulations has made it compulsory for buildings to provide energy efficiency measures.
According to the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), “living standards can be enhanced by reducing the electricity usage and hence the shortfall of energy for all homes.” However, greening a home goes further. For example, it incorporates water efficiency, responsible management of waste as well as well-being.
- What are the perceptions of householders on greening their existing homes?
- What are the potential drivers and barriers?
- When considering a home in a suburb and another in a township, is there such a thing as a typical home in South Africa?
- What does sustainable living or green living mean to different individuals?
This event explores various insights from a recent study on the state of greening homes in South Africa.
